Abstract: Being a major water conservancy project in the development and construc tion of Shanghai economic area, the development and dredging of the mouth of the Yangtze Kiver require us to conduct geologic demonstration at the beginning of the project. The shallow strata profiling, as a new investigation technique, was tentatively used for the first time in this geologic demonstration. Plenty of data and achievements acquired in this work show obviously the effectiveness of this method. This paper describes in particular the application of shallow strata profiling to the development and dredging of the mouth of the Yangtze Kiver.
